Hello! Welcome to Snownotes

Snownotes is a note editor for capturing ideas as they turn up, keeping them somewhere sensible, and finding them again months later.

We all live in our note apps, and we kept hitting the same thing: the tool wants more attention than the writing does. So we built one that asks for less. A clean page, formatting where you'd expect it, and most of the rest a keystroke away rather than a menu away.

Here's what that looks like in practice.

Write

The editor works in blocks. Every paragraph, list, and table is something you can grab by its handle and move, and the formatting you already know works without going near a toolbar.

Slash commands
Type / anywhere to insert a heading, list, table, or code block without leaving the keyboard.
Markdown as you type
Write ## or - and it becomes the real thing. Paste Markdown and it arrives already formatted.
Tables and formulas
Insert a grid and move through it with Tab. Write LaTeX inline or as a centered block, rendered with KaTeX.
Todo lists
Turn any line into a checkable task, nest it under another, and reorder it from the keyboard.

Organize and find

Notes are only worth writing if you can get back to them. Categories give you the structure you define, tags give you the loose kind, and search covers the days when you remember a phrase but not where you put it.

Categories and tags
Type # in the editor to tag a note as you write. Group notes into categories you name and color yourself.
Search and the quick switcher
Full-text search across every note, filtered by date, category, or tag. Hit K to jump straight to one by name.
Sharing and live edits
Share a note by email and watch changes arrive as they happen, with edits from two places merged rather than one quietly winning.
Version history
Step back through earlier versions of a note, duplicate one to branch off it, or recover a draft that never got saved.

Work with AI

The assistant reads the note you're looking at, so there's nothing to paste anywhere. It can answer questions about what you've written, edit it when you ask, or stay entirely out of the way.

Chat about your note
Ask questions about what you've written, or have it search your other notes for the answer.
Rewrites and tone
One-click fixes, rewrites, and tone changes from the toolbar. Every change is shown for review before it applies.
Help as you write
Inline suggestions, cleanup when you paste, and proposed titles, tags, and categories.
Your models, your data
Connect a cloud model or run one on your own machine. Settings spell out what leaves your device, and you can switch all of it off.

Wherever you work

Open two notes side by side when you're writing from a source, or collapse to one column when you're not. Everything saves as you go, so there's no save button to forget. Bring notes in as Markdown, and take them back out as Markdown, rich text, plain text, or a PDF.

Snownotes runs in any modern browser, installs to your dock or home screen from Chrome or Safari, and has a native app for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, iPadOS, and Android on both phones and tablets. Same app and the same notes whichever way you open it.

What's next

We'll keep posting here as things land: walkthroughs of new features, notes from the build, and the occasional thing we got wrong and then fixed. Snownotes is in closed beta at the moment, so if you'd like an invite, join the waitlist and we'll be in touch.

Let's get started.
