Desktop layout

The three-column desktop layout: sidebar, document list, and editor.

Three-column layout

The desktop workspace is divided into three resizable areas. The Sidebar on the left contains your categories, tag cloud, and quick view filters. The Document list in the center displays your notes and reflects any active search queries or filters. The Editor on the right is where you read and write. All three columns can be resized by dragging the dividers between them.

Resizable columns

Drag the dividers between columns to resize them to your preferred proportions. Your column widths are saved automatically and restored between sessions, so you always come back to the layout you like.

Split view

Open two notes side by side by clicking the split-view button in the document menu or toggling it from Settings → View. You can drag notes from the document list into either editor slot. A colored indicator bar at the top of each slot shows which one is currently active and will receive keyboard input.

Focus mode

Enter Focus mode from the document menu (⋯ → Focus mode) or by pressing CtrlJ. The editor expands to fill the entire screen, hiding the sidebar, document list, and all chrome so you can focus entirely on your writing. Press CtrlJ again or click "Exit Focus mode" to return to the normal layout.
