Collaboration & sharing

Share notes by email, see real-time updates, and resolve edit conflicts.

Sharing a note with other people

Open the document menu (⋯) and select "Share..." to invite collaborators by entering their email address. Once shared, the note appears in the collaborator's document list and a collaborator icon is displayed in the document toolbar so you can see at a glance that the note is shared.

Real-time updates

When a collaborator edits a shared note, you receive a notification and the note's content is updated in your document list automatically. If the note is currently open in your editor, the app handles synchronization and alerts you if a newer version is available on the server.

Conflict resolution

If both you and a collaborator edit the same note simultaneously, Snownotes detects the conflict when saving. You are presented with clear options: load the server's version (replacing your local edits), save your version as a separate new note (preserving both), or force-overwrite the server with your version. This ensures no work is ever silently lost.

Viewing shared notes

Use the "Shared" filter in the view selector to see all notes that are shared — both notes you've shared with others and notes others have shared with you. Each shared note shows whether you are the owner or a collaborator.
